Sometimes, it can be hard to know if I heard God right. How can I be sure it was God and not just my wishful thinking? Join Gary & Jane as they share Biblical and personal stories of hearing God and the principles and checkpoints they use to determine if it was God.

First Principle: Develop intimacy with God and learn to recognise Him.

• As we grow closer to God, we learn how He speaks and what He says.
• Read the Bible.
• Learn to recognise how God speaks and what His voice sounds like.

• God doesn’t always speak the same way each time or the same to each person.

Second Principle: Have checkpoints in place.

• We all need boundaries, a fence that outlines the field.
• Line it up with the Bible. What does the Bible say about it?
• The character of God.
• Ask trusted, wise, discerning and godly people.
• How has God communicated to you in the past? (It doesn’t mean He won’t use a new way of speaking with you)
• What will be the fruit/outcome if you implement what you feel God said? E.g. sometimes you never know what the outcome will be.
• Would implementing it bring a smile to God’s dial?

Third Principle: Ask God to confirm it.

• Jeremiah 33:3 “‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

• It’s okay to ask God to confirm it. To show/tell you again.
• A fleece. Episode 38: Gideon in Judges 6:36-40
• Gideon operated out of fear. Look at what may be blocking you from recognising it’s God speaking to you.

Summary:

3. Ask God to confirm it.

Turn your heart and thoughts to Father God and ask Him –

• “God, is there an area of my life I need to trust You more in?”
• “If so, what is that area?”
• “What do I need to do?”
• “What steps would You like me to take?”
