Episode 126: The purpose of hearing God

Episode Description:

What is the purpose of hearing God? Why do we want to hear God? Join Gary & me as we share that hearing God is about intimacy with our Heavenly Father, and we unpack what that can look like.

Episode Notes:

Introduction:

• I sometimes feel that we can lose sight of the purpose of hearing God. I’ve been guilty of this when giving prophetic words (hearing from God for someone else). We can get slick with the delivery, etc but lose the ‘heart’ in it.
• Episode 5 – purpose of hearing God in relation to prophetic words. Today we are looking at it in relation to hearing God for ourselves.

First Principle: It’s all about intimacy

• It’s not about what we do, but who we are and how we relate to God.
• Matthew 22:37-39: “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’”
• Message version puts it: “Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.”
• What does loving God look like?
• What does intimacy with God look like?

Second Principle: Learn to hear God in a multitude of ways

• Yes, it is also about divine guidance, spiritual insight, but more importantly, relationship.
• 1 Corinthians 2:16b we have the mind of Christ.
• Drawing closer to God.
• Gary shares what intimacy with God looks like for him and how he hears from God.
• Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.

Summary:

1. It’s all about intimacy.
2. Learn to hear God in a multitude of ways.

Prophetic activation:

Turn your heart and thoughts to Father God and ask Him:

• “God, can You please bring a song to my mind?”
• “God, why did You bring that song to mind?”
